Forget the generic viral lists! As a Seoul local mom and the creator of The Gangnam Edit, I’m skipping the social media hype to reveal the real Olive Young Must-Buys, the ones that actually earn a permanent spot on my vanity.
Living in the heart of this fast-paced city, I’m constantly asked the same question: “With thousands of products on the shelves, what should I actually buy?” To be honest, my relationship with beauty changed completely after having children. The luxury of a 10-step skincare routine vanished along with my free time. These days, I don’t have hours to browse every aisle. I just need high-performance products that work in the five-minute gap between managing morning logistics and jumping into site admin work.
In this post, I’m opening up my personal collection to share 10+ Olive Young Must-Buys that I restock religiously. They are the tried-and-true staples that survive the hectic life of a Seoulite mom. Whether you’re here for a week-long vacation or a lifetime, these are the essentials you shouldn’t leave the Seoul city without.

1. The “5-Minute Rescue” (Skincare Essentials)
Mediheal Mask Packs & Toner Pads

In Korea, there was a massive trend called “1 Pack a Day” (1-il-1-pack). The idea is to use a sheet mask every single day to allow the skin to soak up a concentrated amount of essence or serum instantly. To be honest, I still try to squeeze in a mask pack whenever I have a spare moment.
However, let’s talk about the biggest downside: they can be quite cumbersome. You need at least 20 minutes for the nutrients to fully absorb, and in my case, if I use one in the morning, the sticky residue often gets into my hair—sometimes forcing me to wash my hair all over again!
Whether it’s a hectic morning or that precious time after “Parenting Retirement” (the moment the kids are finally asleep), I needed a “Quick Care” solution that was less of a hassle but just as effective as a sheet mask. That’s where Mask Toner Pads come in.
My go-to brand for both masks and pads is Mediheal. Their products work wonders even on my extremely sensitive skin. They offer a wide range of options tailored to different skin types and concerns, but if you struggle with breakouts, I can’t recommend their Teatree line enough.
My top pick for toner pads is the Madecassoside Blemish Pad. It’s a powerful “trace-calming” solution featuring 98% pure Madecassoside. For those unfamiliar with the science, Madecassoside is a triterperenoid compound extracted from Centella Asiatica (often called “Tiger Grass”). It’s renowned for its incredible skin-soothing, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties. It helps alleviate skin irritation, promotes collagen production, and is a lifesaver for repairing a damaged skin barrier.
Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Intensive Soothing Repair Cream

If there is one brand I’ve stayed loyal to at Olive Young for the longest time, it’s definitely Dr. Jart+. This brand became a K-Beauty legend when the global beauty giant Estée Lauder Companies acquired it in 2019 for a staggering $1 billion.
However, despite its fame, the brand has been facing some headwinds lately. With the downturn in duty-free business and the shrinking Chinese market—as Chinese consumers pivot toward their own domestic brands—Dr. Jart+ has reported some operating losses. I’ve even come across news reports suggesting that Estée Lauder might be considering a divestment (selling it off) just six years after the acquisition.
While the recent business climate is unfortunate, it hasn’t changed my love for the products. Dr. Jart+ remains one of my all-time favorite brands, and the Cicapair Intensive Soothing Repair Cream is an item I always keep a backup of in my cabinet and will be my forever Olive young Must-Buys.
It is formulated with a powerful triple-soothing complex: Cica Complex, Allantoin, and R-Protector. These ingredients work wonders on chronically sensitive skin and are particularly effective for calming skin that has been irritated after dermatological treatments. It’s my go-to daily cream, applied religiously every morning before makeup and every night after cleansing.
d’Alba Waterfull Tone-Up Sunscreen

Personally, I’ve always found choosing the right sunscreen to be the hardest part of my routine. Unlike other skincare products, it’s difficult to feel the immediate effects of a sunscreen, so I never really knew what made one “better” than the rest. For the longest time, I was a “sunscreen nomad,” simply picking up whatever happened to be on sale at Olive Young. That all changed when I tried d’Alba.
The d’Alba Waterfull Sunscreen boasts a powerful SPF50+ and PA++++ rating for serious UV protection. What sets it apart is its incredibly light, fresh texture—it glides on smoothly, leaving the skin hydrated and naturally brightened. I’ve found it works beautifully as a makeup base before applying foundation. If you’re a fan of the signature K-Beauty “Dewy Glow” (Mul-gwang) look, you are going to love this moist, luminous finish.
It’s also a vegan and hypoallergenic product. Plus, it’s Reef-Friendly, meaning it’s free from ingredients that harm coral reefs, making it a guilt-free essential for your next beach vacation.
- A Quick Pro-Tip: If you have oily skin or prefer a matte finish over a glowing one, my top recommendation is Make P:rem UV Defense Me No-Sebum Sunscreen. It’s a physical (mineral) sunscreen that absorbs comfortably without any greasiness or oily shine. I personally reach for this one during the humid Korean summers.

2. The “Effortless Chic” (Makeup & Tools)
CLIO Superproof Brush Liner & Kill Brow Slim Ash Browcara

Do you remember my previous post about Korea being the land of “Palli-Palli” (hurry-hurry)? Born in this high-velocity culture where no one has time for mid-day touch-ups, I have to introduce you to the ultimate champion of longevity: CLIO.
While CLIO offers various eyeliner lines, my absolute top pick is the Superproof Brush Liner. Because it’s a brush type, it glides on without irritating the delicate eye area, and the color payoff is incredibly sharp and vivid. It’s perfect for creating a clean “wing” or just a subtle, natural line along the lashes.
But the real magic is the staying power. I’ve tried everything from pencils to gels, and I have yet to find anything that beats this. Sometimes I reach for a high-end alternative like the Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner when I want a softer look, but even then, CLIO wins hands down when it comes to being smudge-proof. If you haven’t tried it yet, I recommend it a thousand times over!
I also want to mention CLIO Kill Brow Slim Ash Browcara (Eyebrow Mascara), a category that might be new to some. Just like mascara for your lashes, this product grooms and sets your eyebrow hairs. It comes in a wide variety of shades, allowing you to brighten or darken your brows to perfectly match your hair color. This is the secret to that signature Korean “Natural Beauty” finish—the brush is thin, easy to apply, and makes a world of difference in the final look.
3CE Cashmere Hug Lipstick

3CE (short for Three Concept Eyes) is the beauty offspring of “Style Nanda,” one of Korea’s famous fashion malls. In 2018, the global beauty giant L’Oréal made headlines by acquiring Style Nanda and 3CE for approximately 600 billion KRW (around $500 million), marking the first time L’Oréal had ever acquired a Korean beauty brand.
What’s truly clever is their marketing strategy. Even after the acquisition, they maintained their manufacturing with COSMAX, a top-tier Korean manufacturer, allowing them to continue promoting the brand as authentic K-Beauty worldwide. However, there have been recent whispers that some manufacturing has shifted to China, so it’s always a good idea to check the label if the “Made in Korea” origin is important to you.
3CE is celebrated for its stunning color payoff and trendy palettes, particularly their warm-tone shades, which have a unique, sophisticated depth that’s hard to find elsewhere. While they have many hits, my personal “one-pick” is the 3CE Cashmere Hug Lipstick.

Personally, I prefer a matte finish over a glossy one, but I often worry about matte lipsticks emphasizing dryness or lip lines. The Cashmere Hug Lipstick solves this beautifully. True to its name, it smoothly fills in the gaps between lip lines, offering a texture as soft as cashmere. It glides on effortlessly and provides a luxurious, understated color that isn’t too flashy. I love this lipstick so much that I own several, keeping one in every pouch I own!
Holika Holika Eye Shadow

Holika Holika is a charming K-Beauty brand with a clever name—it’s a play on the English word “holic” (as in addiction) and the Korean word “hollida” (seduce), which means to bewitch or allure.
While they offer many products, their most famous category is undoubtedly the Eye Shadow. Despite their incredibly affordable price point, the quality is top-tier. These shadows offer high adherence with almost zero fallout, meaning the powder stays on your lids, not your cheeks.
I highly recommend picking up one or two of these during your Olive Young run. Each single shadow costs around 4,500 KRW (approx. $3.50)—isn’t that unbelievably cheap for this level of quality? They make for fantastic, high-quality souvenirs or small gifts for friends back home!
Fillimilli Eye Makeup Brush Kit

When it comes to makeup, the products themselves are obviously important, but the tools you use are just as critical. Even the most high-end foundation or eyeshadow can fail to perform if you don’t have the right applicator. High-performance beauty tools are an absolute necessity, especially if you’re aiming for that precise yet naturally blended “K-Beauty” look.
The must-buy brand for tools at Olive Young is Fillimilli (often searched as FilliWilli). This is Olive Young’s very own private label specializing in beauty accessories. Built on the concept of being your “Everyday Beauty Mate,” Fillimilli offers everything from professional-grade face brushes and hair accessories to nail tools at reasonable prices.
If you want your makeup to truly shine, don’t just invest in the pigments; invest in the tools that apply them. Picking up a Fillimilli brush kit is one of the smartest (and most affordable) upgrades you can make to your vanity.
3. The “In-Home Spa” (Hair & Body Care)
Dr.ForHair Sea Salt Scalp Exfoliator

Growing up, I was always blessed with thick, voluminous hair. However, after having two children and entering my 40s, I began to notice that my hair just didn’t feel as full as it used to. I was losing more hair than ever, and I learned that the root of the problem was a weakened scalp.
I tried professional scalp treatments and scaling at hair salons, but as a busy mom, finding the time and managing the high costs made it impossible to go consistently. That was until a helpful Olive Young employee recommended this product to me.
At first, I was unfamiliar with the concept of a “scalp scaler.” But the employee, who had bleached their hair platinum blonde swore by it, saying it was the only thing that kept their damaged scalp and hair healthy while alleviating hair loss symptoms. I decided to give it a try, and it was really working of reducing my hair loss.
This product is officially reported to the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) for its hair loss relief functional ingredients, including Niacinamide, Dexpanthenol, and Salicylic Acid.
The application is incredibly simple. The formula contains salt particles that act as a scrub.
1.You just massage it gently into your scalp until the grains dissolve
2. then rinse with lukewarm water.
It’s recommended 2–3 times a week, and you can use it either before shampooing or even as a shampoo substitute. If you’re struggling with thinning hair or scalp fatigue, this is a must-try.
4. The “Guilt-Free Indulgence” (Wellness & Snacks)
Delight Project Bagel Chips

You simply cannot leave Olive Young without grabbing some snacks. These are exclusive to Olive Young and make for fantastic gifts for colleagues or friends. Unlike typical chips, these are slow-baked at low temperatures rather than deep-fried, making them a much healthier, low-calorie option.
They come in various flavors like Honey Butter, Choco Cinnamon, Cream Soup, and Garlic Butter. The Honey Butter is the crowd favorite—it’s crunchy, perfectly sweet, and incredibly addictive. Because they are made with a more wholesome baking process, you can enjoy that satisfying crunch with far less guilt!
Youngranu Protein Fit Shake

As I’ve entered my 40s, my focus has shifted from simply losing weight to building and maintaining muscle. This led me into the world of protein shakes. After trying numerous brands and flavors, I’ve finally settled on Youngranu Protein Fit Shake as my top choice for ingredients, calories, and, most importantly, taste.
A friend first introduced it to me, and I was immediately hooked. It has the perfect level of sweetness and a pleasant texture with bits to chew on, all while keeping the calorie count low. It was created by a well-known Korean TV personality and lacks that artificial “protein” aftertaste that many other shakes have. It’s delicious even when mixed just with water.
- Black Sesame (Grain): My daily go-to; it’s savory and never gets boring.
- Cocoa: Perfect for those days when you have a serious sugar craving.
- Mugwort Latte & Sweet Bingsu (Shaved Ice): These are uniquely Korean flavors that you won’t find anywhere else. I highly recommend stocking up on a few of these to take a piece of Seoul’s cafe culture home with you!
5. Global Viral Edit & Others
Beauty of Joseon: Relief Sun (Rice + Probiotics)

To be honest, despite being a regular at Olive Young, I wasn’t initially familiar with Beauty of Joseon. It turns out this brand was a massive hit globally before it became a household name here! Their Relief Sun has sold over 8 million units worldwide. It’s a daily sunscreen that doubles as a makeup base, improving the adherence of your foundation. It leaves a natural, healthy glow without the dreaded “white cast” often found in traditional sunscreens.
Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream & Illiyoon Red-Itch Care Cream

Aestura is a derma-cosmetic brand I first encountered at a pediatrician’s office while struggling with my eldest child’s severe atopy (eczema). When my firstborn was an infant, the skin irritation was a constant worry. I used the Atobarrier Cream generously and consistently, and as my child grew, we were finally able to say goodbye to those skin issues.
If you or anyone in your family has sensitive or eczema-prone skin, this is an absolute essential. A great alternative with similar benefits is the Illiyoon Red-Itch Care Barrier Cream. It’s a low-irritation, high-moisture cream that moms and kids can use together. It’s specifically designed to soothe dry skin and significantly reduce the urge to scratch.
Osulloc: Matcha Premium Tea Snacks

With the “Matcha” craze taking the world by storm, you can’t leave Korea without trying something from Osulloc, the legendary premium tea brand from Jeju Island. While Osulloc has its own beautiful tea houses, you can conveniently find their most addictive snacks at Olive Young.
- Matcha Covered Pretzels (Olive Young Exclusive!): This is the star of the show. These pretzels are perfectly salty and coated in rich, premium matcha. The best part? This specific snack is an Olive Young Exclusive, meaning you can only find it here. If you’re a true matcha lover, you absolutely must clear a spot in your suitcase for these.
- Matcha Langue de Chat: These are delicate, butter-rich cookies with a deep green tea filling that melts in your mouth. They are sophisticated, not too sweet, and feel premium.
- Green Tea Wafers: Light, crispy, and packed with authentic Jeju matcha flavor. They are the perfect light snack to enjoy with a cup of tea.
If you consider yourself a “Matcha Lover,” consider Olive Young your new favorite dessert destination. These snacks are high-quality, beautifully packaged, and make for the perfect souvenirs that look (and taste) much more expensive than they actually are!
UNIX Mini Multi Iron (Hair Curler)

The secret behind the perfect hair styling you see on Korean women often lies in brands like UNIX. Founded in 1978 as a hair dryer specialist, UNIX is a legendary Korean small appliance brand. Their travel-sized mini irons are incredibly compact yet perform just as well as full-sized ones. You can easily toss one into your suitcase to maintain your style even while traveling.
Bonus Tip – Tax Refund & Sales
- Immediate Tax Refund: Most major Olive Young stores offer an Immediate Tax Refund service. Just present your passport at the counter, and the tax will be deducted from your total right then and there.
- Olive Young Global: If you missed out during your trip or can’t make it to Seoul just yet, don’t worry. The Olive Young Global App offers international shipping, so you can have these “Local Mom” favorites delivered straight to your door.
