Bangkok Family Travel Guide: Siam Kempinski, Kids Cafe, & Must-Visit Temples

10월 2, 2026

Welcome to our ultimate Bangkok family travel guide! As I shared in my previous post, [Chuseok Korean Thanksgiving Explained: Everything You Need to Know About], South Korea recently celebrated Chuseok—one of our biggest and most important national holidays.

This year, Chuseok brought us a long four-day weekend. Coincidentally, it also marked our 10th wedding anniversary. Usually, we spend holidays visiting both sets of parents to pay our respects and share family meals. But to celebrate a decade together, we decided to do something extra special this time: we flew to Bangkok!

Bangkok holds a very special place in our hearts. We traveled there early in our marriage before having children and made so many happy memories. Now, a decade later, we returned not as two, but as a family of four.

Traveling with kids doesn’t mean you have to compromise on style or relaxation. Today, I’m excited to share how we fully enjoyed Bangkok with our kids!

1. Where to Stay for Your Bangkok Family Travel: Siam Kempinski Hotel

Bangkok is home to so many incredible hotels—from world-famous luxury brands to unique boutique properties. Since finding the right hotel is always one of the most important parts of a trip for me, I spent a lot of time deciding between Capella Bangkok, Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, and Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok.

All three have their own amazing charms, making it a very tough decision! But in the end, my choice came down to one key factor: traveling with kids.

When traveling with family, location and convenience are everything.

That’s why we chose to stay at the Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok, a true luxury oasis located right in the heart of the city. Here is why it was the best choice for our family:

  • Cabana Pool Access Room: Siam Kempinski has a iconic signature room type called the Cabana Pool Access Room. The hotel features a large, beautiful swimming pool designed like a hidden tropical garden surrounded by hotel buildings. If you stay in a Cabana Pool Access Room, your private balcony connects directly to the pool. You don’t need to walk through public hallways or use elevators to get to the pool. We just put on our swimsuits in the room and stepped right out onto the pool deck! After swimming, the kids could walk straight back into our room through the balcony and jump right into the shower. If you are traveling with young children, I highly recommend booking a pool access room!
  • Direct Mall Access: The biggest highlight of this hotel is its seamless connection to Siam Paragon—one of Bangkok’s largest and most famous shopping malls. Siam Paragon offers far more than just shopping. Inside, you’ll find:
    • Fantastic kid-friendly play areas and a modern cinema
    • Endless restaurant options and the newly renovated food paradise
    • Direct, covered access so you never have to step outside into the heat or rain

During our trip, Bangkok experienced record-breaking heavy rain. Because of this unexpected weather, being able to walk directly into a world-class mall without getting wet was an absolute lifesaver. Staying at Siam Kempinski made our trip smooth, dry, and so much fun despite the weather!

2. Indoor Bangkok Family Travel Fun: Meland at Siam Paragon

We actually had a special outdoor activity planned for this trip: visiting an elephant sanctuary to interact with elephants. However, as I mentioned, Bangkok was hit with record-breaking heavy rain during our stay. Roads were flooded, and flights were even getting canceled. Because of the extreme weather, our elephant sanctuary tour was canceled just the day before. The kids were so excited to see the elephants, so they were naturally very disappointed.

To cheer them up, I looked for fun indoor activities and discovered Meland. Meland is a premium indoor play center originating from China, and it is located right inside Siam Paragon.

It’s not just a typical playground—it’s an enormous, super-clean, and modern indoor wonderland filled with interactive themed zones:

  • Role-Playing Fun: A miniature car wash station, vet clinic, play kitchen, and a beauty salon with dress-ups and pretend nails for girls.
  • Active Play: A large indoor sandpit, a colorful carousel, and giant slides.

The facility was incredibly clean and well-maintained. There were so many different activities that our kids stayed entertained for hours. It was just the perfect solution for a rainy day!

Tips for Visit

If you’re planning a visit to Meland with your family, keep these two tips in mind:

  1. Bring Grip Socks (Anti-slip Socks): Both children AND adults are required to wear anti-slip grip socks inside. However, if you forget to bring your own, don’t worry—you can easily buy them at the entrance.
  2. Book the Car Wash Station First: The 2nd-floor car wash activity is popular! As soon as you enter, I recommend heading straight up to the 2nd floor to check the schedule and put your name on the waiting list.

3. Date Night for Parents: Human Friendly Bar

Traveling with family doesn’t mean you have to skip the nightlife. Since this Bangkok trip was also a celebration of our 10th wedding anniversary, we planned a romantic night out just for the two of us.

Once the kids were fast asleep after a fun-filled day, we took some time for ourselves. We snuck out for a quick two-hour date, and it was such a refreshing break!

We sat back, ordered our favorite drinks, and spent the evening reminiscing about our 10 years of marriage—talking about how far we’ve come and all the memories we’ve built together.

The highlight of the night was when the live band played a special song request I made. Singing along to our favorite song together in that cozy, candlelit ambiance was purely magical. It turned out to be one of the most memorable and romantic moments of our entire Bangkok trip!

The place we visited was Human Friendly Bar. Located in the NEXTOPIA zone on the 5th floor of Siam Paragon, this premium live music bar feels like a luxurious hidden gem tucked away inside a modern shopping mall.

Key Highlights of Human Friendly Bar

  • Cozy & Hip Atmosphere: The warm lighting and chic interior design make you completely forget you’re inside a shopping mall. It’s quickly becoming a hot spot for both locals and travelers seeking Bangkok’s vibrant night vibe.

4. Bangkok Family Travel Culture & Food: SookSiam at ICONSIAM

No Bangkok trip is complete without visiting ICONSIAM, but the real highlight for families is SookSiam located on the ground floor.

It is designed to showcase the authentic culture, food, and arts of Thailand’s four main regions: the North, Northeast (Isan), Central, and South. Here is why SookSiam is a must-visit spot for both parents and kids:

Indoor Floating Market

SookSiam cleverly recreates Thailand’s traditional floating market inside a modern, air-conditioned space. You get to walk past charming wooden boats floating on indoor water canals, vibrant lanterns, and traditional Thai decor—all while staying completely cool and comfortable out of the heat and rain.

A Culinary Journey Through Thailand’s 4 Regions

What I loved most about SookSiam was how it organizes Thai food by region. You don’t have to travel across the entire country to taste local street foods—they are all brought together in one clean, family-friendly marketplace!

  • Central Region: Classic favorites like Pad Thai, Boat Noodle, and crispy seafood pancakes.
  • Northern Region: Rich coconut curry noodles (Khao Soi) and flavorful herbal sausages.
  • Northeastern Region (Isan): Spicy green papaya salad (Som Tum) and grilled skewers that parents will love.
  • Southern Region: Spicy seafood dishes and sweet desserts like warm Mango Sticky Rice and Thai coconut pancakes (Khanom Krok).

It was so fun for our family to try small snacks from different stalls, giving us a taste of authentic Thai street food with complete peace of mind regarding food hygiene.

One-Stop Souvenir Shop

Besides the incredible food, SookSiam is packed with cute market stalls selling traditional handicrafts, lifestyle items, and gifts.

  • Great Variety: You can find everything from handmade Thai soaps, aromatic essential oils, and woven bags to local snacks, dried fruits, and tea sets.
  • Convenient Gift Shopping: It’s the perfect place to pick up souvenirs for friends, colleagues, and family back home without having to navigate crowded outdoor night markets with kids.

5. Iconic Bangkok Family Travel Highlights: Wat Pho & River Cruise

For a touch of rich Thai history and culture, we spent time exploring Bangkok’s most iconic landmarks. Although we faced some unexpected adventures along the way, this turned out to be one of the most unforgettable highlights of our entire trip.

Iconic Bangkok Family Travel Highlights: Wat Pho & River Cruise

Wat Pho: A Moment of Pure Peace and Reflection

Getting to Wat Pho wasn’t easy. Due to the heavy torrential rain and Bangkok’s notorious traffic jams, the journey to the temple was quite exhausting for our family. But the moment we stepped inside, all the fatigue completely melted away.

  • An Overwhelming Presence: Standing before the magnificent 46-meter-long gold-leaf Reclining Buddha was a breathtaking and truly overwhelming experience for both us and the kids.
  • A Sense of Happiness: What struck me most was the expression on the Buddha’s face. It looked so peaceful, gentle, and utterly happy that a warm sense of positive energy instantly filled my heart.
  • A Heartfelt Wish: Looking up at the golden statue, I took a quiet moment to pray for our family—asking for good health, lasting happiness, and inner peace in our lives. Despite the rain and heavy traffic, visiting Wat Pho was worth every single effort, leaving a deep and lasting impression on my mind.

Chao Phraya River Boat Tour: A Wonderful Spontaneous Adventure

Unlike Wat Pho, our Chao Phraya River boat tour was completely unplanned!

On our final day, we had some spare time before heading to the airport for our night flight. Feeling a bit adventurous, we hailed a Tuk-Tuk parked right outside our hotel and asked the driver to give us a quick mini-tour around the city.

  • The Driver’s Suggestion: Seeing that we wanted to explore, our friendly Tuk-Tuk driver warmly suggested, “Why not go to the pier and take a boat ride on the river?”
  • Haggle & Hop On: It sounded like a great idea! After negotiating a good price for a private boat ride, we boarded a traditional long-tail boat for an unplanned 1-hour river cruise.
  • Unforgettable Views: Feeling the cool river breeze while gliding past Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) and the Grand Palace from the water offered a totally unique perspective of Bangkok. It was the perfect, spontaneous finale to our family trip!

This Bangkok trip was definitely not without its challenges. With relentless heavy rain following us throughout our stay, we had to deal with unexpected cancellations and sudden changes to our plans.

Yet, within those rainy days and traffic jams, we adapted and did our absolute best to make every single moment fun and meaningful. Perhaps because of all those unexpected twists, this journey feels even more special and deeply etched in our hearts.

Reflecting on the milestone of our 10th wedding anniversary, I found myself dreaming of the long journey ahead. Just as we have shared the past decade together, I dream of staying happy, peaceful, and truly connected—for the next 20, 30, 40 years, and literally forever and ever.
